Women
Women’s cricket at Sydenham has a strong history. Our teams cater for every type of player from the social weekender to developing players with aspirations to pursue cricket at the highest level and those already competing in national competitions.
Sydenham are the current Premier women one day champions.
Practices and Training
Our Division 1 and Premier women’s team train together. They are coached by Felicity Robertson and Beth Dodd. Dakoda Potter provides support for Division 1.
Pre-season training starts first week of August in the Sydenham Indoor Centre, with regular training times starting in September.
Regular training, starting September:
- Monday 6-7:30 pm, Sydenham Indoor Centre
- Tuesday 6-7:30 pm, fielding @ Sydenham Park
- Wednesday 6-7:30 pm, Sydenham Park outdoor grass wickets or, if wet, the Sydenham Indoor Centre astro nets
Premier Women
The Premier grade is for the top players in the Christchurch. Players in this grade include national and domestic representatives as well as club specialists who are looking to grow their game and compete at the highest level of club cricket. This is the only competitive grade for women where the strongest team is selected each week.
There are four teams in this grade: Sydenham, Lancaster Park, Old Boy Collegians and North West.
Who the grade is for: Competitive cricketers and developing players. When domestic players are away local club players get to lead developing Division 1 players in the grade.
Playing format: 50 overs, T20 and a development format yet to be determined (likely 40 overs). All 11-aside
Playing times: Matches start 10:30 am Saturday, finishing around 6 pm.
Division 1 Women
Division one is a stepping stone to Premier cricket. Players in this grade are looking to balance fun with skills development.
Who the grade is for: Year 9 and over women
Playing format: 9-aside T20 and 35 over competitions.
Playing times: Matches start 1 pm Saturday, finishing around 5 pm.
Saturday coach: Dakoda Potter
Division 2 Women
Sydenham Junior Cricket Club look after Sydenham teams this grade.
Who the grade is for: Year 9 and 10 women. Year 8 players in this grade must bowl on a shortened pitch.
Playing format: 9-aside, 25 overs. A development grade focused on providing opportunities for all players to grow and develop.
Playing times: Matches start 9 am Saturday, finishing around 12pm.
