From Junior to President – Tom Agnew Takes the Helm

Tom Agnew was officially elected as the Club’s new President at our AGM on the 26 August.

Tom is a hugely respected figure both within Sydenham and across Canterbury cricket. A current Premier Men’s player, he has amassed more than 250 Premier appearances and 500 wickets – an extraordinary record that reflects his longevity, consistency and contribution to the game.

A true Sydenham man, Tom began his cricket journey as a junior at the Club before progressing through the grades to establish himself as one of Christchurch’s leading club cricketers over many years.

He has also been preparing for this role for some time, having served on the Club’s committee for 14 years, including as Vice President for most of that period. His knowledge of the Club, its people, and its traditions will be invaluable as he takes on the Presidency.

Tom succeeds Graham Harris, whose remarkable 16-year tenure as President came to an end at the AGM. He certainly leaves some big shoes to fill, but Sydenham is fortunate to have someone of Tom’s calibre, experience and passion stepping into the role. We look forward to seeing Tom lead the Club into its next chapter.
